Winston Churchill High School was one of the first high schools in the country to perform the award-winning Broadway play RENT in 2008. Many fundraisers supported the dream of performing RENT at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2009 for the cast and crew. The Supporting Cast Foundation is a major supporter of these endeavors. Click here for the Supporting Cast Foundation website.

Churchill has established itself as a force in the local high school theatre community, garnering 12 CAPPIE nominations in the last three years (including Best Musical for the 2006 production of Singin' in the Rain) and winning a number of awards. RENT: School Edition was 2008-2009’s CAPPIE play and received 4 nominations and 2 awards. Awards were presented on Sunday June 7 at 7:00pm in the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center. Churchill students performed the Best Song nominated "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" with the entire cast and featuring Best Female Vocalist Winner Shelby Sykes and Best Male Vocalist Nominee Josh Coyne. The RENT Band also received our 6th consecutive nomination for Band or Orchestra, winning the award for the 4th time. See their full list of nominees at www.cappies.com/nca
Chicago is this year’s CAPPIE show.

For special features on the RENT cast scene stealers, (Steven Rigaux, Sonya Lilienstein) or Three Who Shone from Beauty and the Beast (Josh Simon, Mike Mainwairing and Technician Scott Selman), both which were reviewed on the awesome DC Theatre Scene website, click on the links above.
